[ARCHIVED] One Vehicle Collision Results in Death of Motorcycle Operator

Flagstaff, AZ; Coconino County Sheriff’s Deputies and Detectives are investigating the death of an adult male motorcycle rider resulting from a one vehicle collision. On Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at 1:48 pm emergency dispatchers received the report of this collision in the 6300 block of Townsend Winona Road. The first emergency responder to arrive was an Arizona Department of Public Safety Officer who immediately administered C.P.R. to the victim. The officer was assisted by members of Summit Fire District and Medics with Guardian Medical Transport. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

According to witness statements and physical evidence found at the scene, investigators believe the motorcycle operator was driving west bound on Townsend Winona Road when for unknown reasons he left the west bound lane crossed over the east bound lane and eventually left the road surface. The motorcycle became airborne and struck a utility pole guide wire causing the pole to snap into two pieces. The Arizona Public Service Company responded and replaced the downed pole and repaired the downed power lines. Investigators are looking into the possibility that speed was a factor in this collision. The victim’s name is being withheld pending next of kin notification. This investigation is ongoing.
