[ARCHIVED] Memorial Day Weekend DUI Task Force– Lets Honor Responsibly

Coconino County, AZ; The Coconino County Sheriff’s Office would like to take the opportunity to remind you that our deputies will be actively patrolling this holiday weekend. We will be working closely with our Northern Arizona Law Enforcement partners to patrol the neighborhoods, highways, roadways, public lands, lakes, and rivers of Coconino County, 24 hours a day throughout the weekend with the mission of providing a safe atmosphere for the public to recreate and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedom we enjoy.

This will be a very busy weekend with many travelers on the roadways and visiting Northern Arizona. We want to let everyone know we will have increased enforcement efforts targeting people who make the decision to drive impaired and/or irresponsibly. The Coconino County Sheriff’s Office will be participating in the Rt. 66 DUI Task Force, which is a multi-agency DUI task force consisting of 13 agencies focused on enforcement efforts in jurisdictions along Route 66 from New Mexico to California.

Deputies will also be focusing efforts on Off Highway Vehicle (OHV/ATV) enforcement, Boat/Watercraft enforcement, and illegal campfire patrols. Every year there are several fatalities and serious injuries associated with OHV/ATV’s, boats, and watercraft in Coconino County. Our goal is to educate the public on these regulations that are designed to keep those enjoying these activities as safe as possible. The Coconino County Sheriff’s Community Emergency Response Team (C.E.R.T.) and CCSO Patrol Volunteers will be staffing a safety and informational station in the Cinder Lakes OHV area, providing safety information on camping and safe OHV/ATV operation. Deputies will also be issuing citations for those who choose to violate these regulations and laws County-wide.

Memorial Day is the day set aside to honor and mourn our military personnel who have died in the performance of their duties while serving in the United States Armed Forces. Let us all continue to respect them and be responsible this weekend. Use a taxi, Uber, LYFT, Shuttle, or a designated driver if you plan to drink. It is safer for you and others and a whole lot cheaper than taking a chance of driving while impaired. We hope that you have a safe and wonderful holiday weekend. Join us in our mission to keep everyone safe on the roads as you enjoy the Memorial Day Weekend.
