SUBJECT: | Off Highway Vehicle (OHV) Rollover Results in Serious Injury |

Flagstaff, AZ – On April 4, 2021 at approximately 4:18 PM the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office received several reports of an Off Highway Vehicle (OHV) accident in the Cinder Hills recreational area, north of Doney Park. The driver was reportedly trapped under the overturned OHV.
A Sheriff’s Deputy responded to the Cinder Hills area and located the victim who was no longer trapped but had a significant injury to his left arm with significant bleeding. Due to the type of injury, the Deputy applied a tourniquet to the victim’s arm to stop the excessive bleeding. The victim, a 25-year-old male from Phoenix, was transported to the Flagstaff Medical Center by ambulance for treatment. It was later learned that medical staff advised the tourniquet saved the victim’s life.
The accident is currently under investigation.
The Sheriff’s Office responds to numerous OHV/ATV related crashes with significant injuries throughout the year in Coconino County. In 2020, the Sheriff’s Office responded to an unprecedented amount of visitation to public lands in Coconino County and OHV/ATV calls for service. There has been a large increase in OHV/ATV collisions and OHV/ATV fatalities.
We would like to remind people recreating on OHV’s to take the necessary precautions to ensure a safe experience while operating off-road vehicles to observe all applicable laws and regulations. Deputies will be aggressively enforcing OHV laws and safety regulations throughout Coconino County.
