Mormon Lake Road Project

[ARCHIVED] Paving begins for Mormon Lake Rd Reconstruction Project

Mormon Lake Road Reconstruction Project crews continue to move from south to north along the roadway. Old pavement pulverizing operations are close to being completed all the way up to the area of Mile Marker 3.5, which is located north of the township and the rodeo grounds. With pulverizing operations along this section winding down, crews have transitioned to initial paving operations for the project.

There will be two separate 1.5-inch asphalt layers (also known as “lifts”) installed for this project. The plan is to pave the first (bottom) lift of both the northbound and southbound lanes from the south entrance to the sharp curve near the south edge of town by the end of this week. Meanwhile, curb & gutter work for the railing in front of the lodge will continue into next week. Once this work is completed, crews will work on setting the road’s final grade through town so that paving of the bottom lift (again, both lanes) can continue from the sharp curve all the way to Mile Marker 3.5 during the week of June 24.

The contractor’s goal is to provide a paved surface all the way from the south entrance of Mormon Lake Road to Mile Marker 3.5 in time for the upcoming 4th of July weekend, which will include the Ty Yost “Cowboy Christmas” roping event. Temporary centerline striping (but no temporary edge lines) will be installed on this bottom lift of pavement and will remain in place until the final (top) lift is installed. The second and final 1.5-inch lift of asphalt will be done along the entire 9.8-mile length of Mormon Lake Road towards the end of the project. This will be done to help ensure a smooth, continuous asphalt surface all the way from the south end to the north end of the road.

Motorists are reminded that 30-minute delays should be expected coming in from either entrance during these operations. However, once the bottom lift of paving is completed, delays at the south entrance will be greatly minimized. In the interim, please remain aware traffic control, signage and equipment in the construction zone. Also, please watch your speed – both for safety and to help keep dust down - and slow down when approaching the cattleguards.
