[ARCHIVED] Deputies Responding to Lake Powell Injuries and Damages from Microburst

Microburst Damage to Tree Page AZ

UPDATE at 3:45 on 9/14/17 -

High winds and heavy rain hit the Page, AZ and Lake Powell areas at about 12:50 pm this afternoon.

Most boat related injuries and sinkings have been on the Utah side. Coconino County Sheriff's Office has 4 boat patrol deputies out in two of our patrol boats assisting National Park Service and Utah State Parks Rangers.  There have been multiple injuries reported, two reports of overturned houseboats, and dozens of swamped and sinking powerboats and jet skis. Classic Lifeguard Air Rescue was unable to respond during the high winds, but was able to launch later and is now transporting patients off the lake. Currently conditions are choppy water but rain and high winds have subsided.

Page, AZ - A microburst has been reported in the Page, AZ area. Coconino County Sheriff’s Deputies are currently responding to several injuries, overturned water craft with occupants in the water, and other needs on Lake Powell and throughout the area. Currently the most serious water related injuries and damage appear to have occurred in the Utah jurisdiction of the lake. Two photos are attached showing some of the damage that occurred on land in Page, AZ. We will provide updates as additional information is received.
