[ARCHIVED] Kachina Trail/Kachina Blvd Detour Removed

The detour at the intersection of Kachina Trail and Kachina Boulevard has been removed. As the temporary roadway is not yet striped, vertical panels will be in place for about a week until striping is installed and to normalize traffic in this area. Thank you for your patience during this challenging project.

The detour was necessary so that crews could safely complete installation of the sewer system along the last 100 feet of this project. The new sewer system was completed Thursday afternoon.

The County’s contractor was delayed from completing this project for two weeks due to soil instability that continued to cause challenges to crews working 20+ feet below grade on the last 100 feet of this project. Soil instability at this depth, which is very difficult to assess prior to groundbreaking, posed serious safety issues to crews during the deep trench work for the new sewer lines and laterals.

Although the Kachina Trail Utility Relocation Project was substantially completed by the stated May 19 deadline, we apologize that the detour extended the schedule provided to you last week. Work on the remaining sewer system installation was such that the status of the project during the last 50 feet of installation was changing almost hourly due to weather and the soil challenges right up until Thursday evening.

Remaining work on this project includes completing the installation of an all-weather surface along Kachina Trail, which is underway and will remain in place as the ADOT-managed Kachina Trail Pavement Reconstruction Project gets underway early next month. Shoulder work, along with project cleanup and demobilization activities, will be done next Monday and Tuesday with final project completion slated by Wednesday, May 24.

Again, the County apologizes for any inconvenience caused by this detour and greatly appreciates your patience. If you have any questions or concerns then please call Public Works at 928-679-8300 or visit the project’s web page at
