Coconino County: Psychologically Healthy Workplace Award

Coconino County was awarded the "2011 American Psychological Association National Award for Psychologically Healthy Workplace." The County won the award along with four other organizations from around the country. The award recognizes the County for its practices of involving employees in key decision-making processes and other programs designed to encourage employee growth, health, and safety.

International Public Management Association for Human Resources Award for Excellence

The International Public Management Association for Human Resources (IPMA-HR) annually recognizes outstanding service, contribution, and accomplishments in the public sector human resources field. Coconino County Human Resources won the Agency Award for Excellence in the small agency category. This award recognizes the overall quality, accomplishments, and contributions of an agency personnel program that exceeds the normal operation of a "good government personnel program." The award is based on agency program initiatives, accomplishments, and contributions within a three-year time period.

The Three Programs

HR was recognized for innovation in the face of trying financial times with three programs:

Premier Employer Committee,
Personal Day Purchase Program,
and outstanding Safety Program.

One IPMA award committee member called the County nomination "a joy to read and the natural choice for the award." Human Resources Director, Allison Eckert, attended the 2011 IPMA-HR International Training Conference in September to accept the award and serve on a benchmarking panel to discuss innovative programs and best practices. The Coconino County Personal Day Purchase Program was published as a Case Study in the "IPMA-HR Benchmarking Report - Benefits in a New Economy" presented at the conference and the County's Agency Award for Excellence nomination was recognized in the September 2011 Issue of IPMA-HR's "HR News" Magazine.

Arizona Mature Worker Friendly Certification

On August 23, 2012 Coconino County was certified as a Mature Worker Friendly Employer through the Arizona Mature Workforce Initiative and the Governor's Advisory Council on Aging. This certification recognizes employers' workplace flexibility, training and advancement opportunities to workers of all ages.

The Arizona Mature Workforce Initiative was launched in 2005. It is designed to raise visibility, awareness, appreciation of and employment opportunities for mature workers, while addressing projected labor force shortages, due to the pending retirement of Baby Boomers. Coconino County realizes that mature workers bring a wealth of knowledge, expertise and professionalism to the workplace and is proud to subscribe to the Employer Pledge that is a part of the Arizona Mature Worker Certification.

NACO Achievement Award Winner 2014

The National Association of Counties (NACo) granted Coconino County a 2014 Achievement Award for its program titled "Employee Growth and Development's "Quick Takes" Series" in the category of Personnel Management, Employee Training & Benefits. NACo congratulated everyone involved, who were able to help develop this innovative program and to deliver positive results for Coconino County. Quick Takes is a series of brief one-hour classes, focusing on training related to key topics such as customer service and effective performance at work. The program is designed to provide valuable information to busy employees of all levels within our organization in compact sessions that nearly everyone can fit into their schedule. The classes are led by staff within the Human Resources Department and start with real work examples from within the County's various departments. This is followed by a presentation on the topic and then an open discussion going back to the initial issues and how they could have been resolved better by using what was learned during the class. Topics include time management, leadership, teambuilding and employee relations to name a few.
