90-Day Appeal Period: April 30 - July 28, 2021

Overview: Kachina Village/Mountainaire Remapping Project

On April 29, 2021, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) delivered preliminary flood maps for parts of Coconino County and the City of Flagstaff. The maps identified the revised flood hazards in Kachina Village and the Pumphouse Wash and Schoolhouse Wash drainage areas.

To help inform the public about the upcoming new preliminary flood maps, the County, City of Flagstaff and FEMA hosted a virtual Flood Risk Open House on April 21, 2021.

Before the new Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) could become effective, there was a 90-day appeal period that ran from April 30 thru July 28, 2021. During that time, residents or businesses with supporting technical and scientific information, such as detailed hydraulic or hydrologic data, were able to appeal the flood risk information on the preliminary maps and/or provide comments.

Once the appeal period ended and any appeals and/or comments were addressed, the flood maps were finalized and issued. The new flood maps became effective July 19, 2022.
