Kachina Village/Mountainaire Remapping Project
When new preliminary flood maps are released, they replace older, outdated flood maps. As a result, flood risks will have changed; some property owners will see that their flood risk has increased or decreased, while others will see no change.
Typically, a Flood Risk Open House is held after their release. This allows residents and business owners to visit different stations in person to learn about how their flood risk might have changed; possible impacts on flood insurance requirements and costs; what they could do if they disagreed with the preliminary maps and meet one-on-one with a mapping or insurance specialist, or local or FEMA representative.
Due to COVID-19 pandemic, Coconino County Flood Control District could not hold one when the preliminary maps were released for Kachina Village/Mountainaire. Wanting to still inform affected property owners, the District created two opportunities to hear and learn about this mapping project. First, a live virtual Flood Risk Open House meeting was held to discuss the project and a recording of that meeting made for those that could not attend.
Second, the District created a series of webpages as an online version of a Flood Risk Open House so property owners could still “visit” each station to learn more about the project.
To the left are different “stations” which were available to visit. The first station to visit was the Identify Your Property’s Flood Risk. Just click on this or any other links for station information.
