Proposed West Coconino Fire Rescue District Information
The Board of Supervisors received an Impact Statement for the proposed establishment of the West Coconino Fire Rescue District. Documents pertaining to the proposed Fire District can be found below. Arizona Revised Statutes 48-261 are the statutory requirements for creating a fire district. The Board will have a hearing regarding the Impact Statement and proposed Fire District on Tuesday, May 11 at 7:00 p.m. The hearing will be held virtually via a Zoom Webinar. At the hearing the Board will hear from those for and against the proposed district and shall determine whether the creation of the district will promote public health, comfort, convenience, necessity or welfare. If the Board of Supervisors determines that the public health, comfort, convenience, necessity or welfare will be promoted, it shall approve the district impact statement and authorize the circulation of petitions. Special Taxing Districts
Special taxing districts are established under Arizona Revised Statutes, Title 48, as political subdivisions of the state. They are governed by an elected board. Additional statutory information is available at the Arizona Legislature website.
The Process
The process to create a district is citizen-driven. Property owners are encouraged to talk with their neighbors to determine the level of support for a proposed district. County residents are encouraged to call (928) 679-7165 for more information concerning districts.
