Map Change Overview

New preliminary flood maps have been released for the areas around Kachina Village and Mountainaire area which replace older, outdated flood maps.  As a result, flood risks have changed; some property owners will see that their flood risk has increased or decreased, while others will see no change.

The map adoption timeline entails three stages. During each stage, the floodplain permitting requirements vary.  Below are flow charts describing each stage:

National Flood Insurance Program

Residents anfip_logore strongly encouraged to renew or secure flood insurance by contacting an insurance agent or the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) immediately.  The NFIP can be reached at 1-800-638-6620 or at www.floodsmart.com.  The flood insurance policy MUST be purchased prior to any flood event if a claim is to be filed.  In addition, if a property is rented out, then discussing the risks and level of insurance with your carrier is also recommended.
