The Court Services Division is made up of the Pretrial Service Unit and the Presentence Investigation Unit. We are proud to have highly professional and dedicated pretrial officers who recognize that community protection can be maintained while protecting the constitutional right of all citizens to be presumed innocent until their guilt is proven beyond reasonable doubt.
The Pretrial Services Unit is charged with two primary objectives:
-
Investigating the status of incarcerated inmates for possible release and providing a report to the Court for more informed release decisions.
-
Supervising persons released from jail to ensure court appearance and provide for additional protection to the community.
While the role of Pretrial Services has become viewed as more of jail population management issue nationally, it provides a greater function of assisting the courts in determining who needs to remain in custody and who can be released without undue threat to the community.
