SENIOR NUTRITION in Flagstaff

 

Senior Nutrition runs the
congregate meal for Seniors at the Thorpe Park Center Monday through Friday.  The dining room opens at 11:00 am and meal is served at noon.

Also provides home delivered meals to 100 seniors through Meals on Wheels.

Delivery Assistant - Ride along with Meals on Wheels!
Time: Monday through Friday 11:15 am - 1:30 pm      
Location: Thorpe Park Center, 245 Thorpe Rd, Flagstaff AZ 86001
Typical Commitment: 1 day a week 

Senior Apartments Meals Driver - Deliver a hot meal to residents at Senior Apartments
Time: Monday through Friday 11:15 am - 12:15 pm
Location: Pick up meals at Thorpe Park Center and deliver to apts off of Lake Mary Rd
Typical Commitment: 1 day a week

Time: As needed Monday through Friday 10 am - 11:30 am
Location: Pick up meals from Bill Williams Senior Center
Typical Commitment: 1-2 a month

Back Up Kitchen Assistant - Help prepare lunch for seniors!
Time: As needed Monday through Friday before 1 pm
Location: Bill Williams Senior Center
Typical Commitment: few hours a month

Activity Leader - Do you have a skill you would like to share?
Time: Monday through Friday, usually before or after lunch
Location: Bill Williams Senior Center
Typical Commitment: 1-2 a year

Drivers for Activities and Programs - Transport seniors to Flagstaff or local sites!
Training Required and provided by Senior Services
Time: Varies
Location: Pick up at Bill Williams Senior Center
Typical Commitment: once a month

SENIOR SERVICES 

 Senior Services assists seniors and disabled adults remain independent in their own homes by providing support services such as housekeeping, respite, case management, and home delivered meals.mother daughter 

Currently recruiting for...

Friendly Calling – Call a homebound senior at least twice a week for 15 minutes to check in and give them support.

Friendly Visiting – Visit a homebound senior or disabled adult near you once a week for one hour to provide companionship.  

Transportation Assistance – Provide transportation to seniors driving Senior Services vans. Training is provided. Must have proof of insurance and driver's license.

Shopping Assistance – Shop for a homebound senior or disabled adult.  Once every one or two weeks.  Can be short or long term.

Respite Assistance – Provide respite to the primary caregiver while providing companionship to the neighbor.  1-2 hours per week.

Yard work – Help homebound seniors or disabled adults with yard maintenance.  Best for one time, small group projects.

DREAM CIRCLES/BEYOND POVERTY 

New to Flagstaff, this program utilizes volunteer Allies who provide a support system for a person or family in poverty to help them achieve their goals and make a permanent transition out of poverty.  This involves an ongoing long term commitment and the chance to make a meaningful relationship and lasting difference.

BASIC BUSINESS EMPOWERMENT PROGRAM 

The Basic Business Empowerment Program provides budding entreprenuers with a thorough training course as well as the opportunity to invest through Individual Development Accounts (IDAs) for those who qualify as low income.

Below is a list of projects in which we are a partner:

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)

Tax Season ends April 15th ... we will begin recruiting for 2009 in the Fall of 2008

Volunteer Positions:

Tax Preparer - Requires an online training.  Must be comfortable with computers and numbers.

Screeners/Greeters - Greet tax payers and review their materials to make sure they have what they need and to direct them to the level of tax prep they need.  Training provided.

Set Up and Take Down - Need to set up or take down tables, chairs, signs and may need to assist in plugging in or unplugging computers and printer.
