Transfer Stations on Winter Hours

Transfer Stations, Recycling, Composting & Waste Tire Info
The Solid Waste Division of the Public Works Department operates two waste transfer stations within Coconino County.  

The two transfer stations are located south of Flagstaff as noted below. Signs are posted at all County transfer stations listing hours of operation (including winter / summer hours), tipping fees, wastes accepted and hazardous waste not accepted, and recycling information. The winter season is from November 1 through April 30, and the summer season is from May 1 through October 31.

In addition to the County's transfer stations, County residents may also use three other waste facilities: The City of Flagstaff Cinder Lakes Landfill, the City of Williams Transfer Station and the privately owned and operated Allied Waste Page Transfer Station. Locations and hours of operation are listed below.

Liquid waste, batteries, hazardous materials, dead animals, cars and/or car parts are not accepted at the transfer stations. For household hazardous materials disposal, see details below regarding the City of Flagstaff's Household Hazardous Waste Facility. Refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners must have the Freon removed and a certificate of evacuation attached to them. Ashes must be placed in the 55-gallon ash bins provided at each site.

Willard Springs Transfer Station
  • Winter (November 1 - April 30):
    • Friday & Saturday: 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM

  • Summer (May 1 - October 31):
    • Friday thru Monday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Location: Located 17 miles south of Flagstaff on I-17 at Willard Springs exit (Section 1, T18 N, R E).

The site has a waste compactor, four open-top waste bins, a recycle bin, a white goods and scrap steel bin and ash barrels. This site also offers a fenced ½ acre forest material collection and burn area. The station is operated under a Special Use Permit with the U.S. Forest Service. The County currently contracts for waste transfer service at this site with the City of Flagstaff's Environmental Services Division.

Mormon Lake Transfer Station
  • Winter (November 1 - April 30):
    • Sundays: 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM

  • Summer (May 1 - October 31):
    • Sundays: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Location: Located on the Mormon Lake Loop, 1/4 mile west of the north entrance of FH-3 (Section 32, Township 19N, Range 9E).

The site has open-top waste bins, a white goods and scrap steel bin, a bin for residential recyclables, and ash barrels. The site is operated under a special use permit with the U.S. Forest Service. The County currently contracts for waste transfer service at this site with the City of Flagstaff's Environmental Services Division.

Recycling & Other Services
Recyclable materials are accepted free of charge. Coconino County's staffed facilities accept cardboard, newspaper, magazines, metal cans, small appliances, white goods, junk mail, aluminum, #1 through #7 plastics, and chip board. We do not accept glass at this time. A recycling information flyer is available at all manned facilities. Coconino County has also placed recycle bins at the City of Flagstaff Landfill for County resident use.

    The Household Hazardous Waste Program serves households located in the City of Flagstaff and Coconino County. The Hazardous Products Center is operated by the City of Flagstaff.

    City of Williams Transfer Station

    Page Transfer Station (Allied Waste Services)
    This facility serves the needs of residents of the northern-most part of the County (LeChee area) and is privately owned and operated by Allied Waste Services in the Page area.

    The Navajo Nation operates transfer stations located at Leupp, Cameron, Tuba City, Tonalea, The Gap and Kaibeto. For information regarding location and hours of operation please contact the Navajo Nation Solid Waste Department at (928)871-6309.

    Waste Tire Yards
    Coconino County Waste Tire Yard
      • Open year-round

    Location: 5701 East Penstock Flagstaff, AZ

    Car and truck tires are accepted at the waste tire yard free of charge. Tires with rims will not be accepted. The tipping fee for off-road tires with inside diameters of 25 inches or less is $20.00; off-road tires with inside diameters of 26 inches or more are $50.00. Tires are also accepted at any transfer station located farther than 60 miles from the Coconino County Waste Tire Yard. Customers with tires within 60 miles of Flagstaff may bring their tires to the waste tire yard.

    Important: Please note that customers are responsible for off-loading their waste tires at the County Waste Tire Yard.
