Earth Day 2016

Highlights from Earth Day 2016

More than 120 people came out to help Coconino County celebrate Earth Day!

Waste was almost zero, since recyclable plates and cups were used.

Pictured above, are some of the winners of the recycle box decorating competition. Thank you to our judges: County Manager Cynthia Seelhammer, County Supervisor Art Babbott, and Deputy County Managers Mike Townsend, and Neal Young.

A big hit was the County’s new Energy Awareness Bike, built by Jeff Kosmicki from County Facilities Management. This bike was upcycled using an old exercise bike from the Sherriff’s Office and Jeff was able to use many other recycled pieces in the construction of the bike. This is a great tool to show how much more energy it takes to power an incandescent light bulb in comparison to a compact florescent light and LED light. Thanks for building this for Coconino County Jeff! Pictured below is Deputy County Manager Mike Townsend and Supervisor Art Babbott testing out the new County Energy Awareness Bike.

The event was made possible, and was successful, thanks to the support of the County BOS, the County Manager’s Office, the Green Team, Facilities Management, Adult Probation, Assessor’s Office, and the Sheriff’s Office. Several County Departments and Program’s helped to provide tables with information and games, including: the County Lean Team, Bountiful Baskets, GIS, the County Wellness Program, Parks and Recreation, Community Development, and Facilities Management. Community partners from Quality Connections, ADEQ, and NAIPTA were also at the event, providing staff additional resources. The event atmosphere was enhanced with live music from our very own Paul Snider from Facilities Management, with his band, the Irish Trio. Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the event a fun celebration!
