Mike Townsend
Interim County Manager

Mike Townsend was appointed Interim County Manager in November 2011 after serving more than 10 years with the County. Most recently Mike was a Deputy County Manager serving as Chief Operations Officer overseeing the County’s Internal Service, Finance, Information Technology, Career Center, Human Resources and Facilities departments. Before that Mike served as the County’s Chief Fiscal Officer.

In addition to serving the County, Mike sits on the Arizona State Retirement System’s Board of Trustees. He was appointed to the ASRS Board in 2004, served as the Board's Vice-Chair in fiscal year 2007 and as Board Chair in fiscal years 2008 and 2009.

Prior to joining the County, Mike worked with the City of Flagstaff Finance Department in Public Accounting, and worked in the private sector in the manufacturing and automotive industries.

Larry Dannenfeldt
Deputy County Manager

Larry Dannenfeldt has worked for Coconino County for more than six years. With more than 30 years of departmental and organizational management experience, he originally joined the County as the Information Technology Department Director. 

Larry oversees the following departments: Public Works, Kachina Village Improvement District, Health, Community Services, Parks & Recreation and Community Development. In addition, he represents Coconino County on the Flagstaff Metropolitan Planning Management Committee and acts as the point of contact for the County on Economic Development-related initiatives.

The County Manager is responsible for the daily management of County government and is accountable to the Board of Supervisors.  The County Manager duties and responsibilities include:

• Implementation and administration of policies established by the Board of Supervisors, including the County budget
• Supervision of appointed department heads
• Provides support for Board of Supervisors' initiatives and programs
• Responds to citizen requests and inquiries
• Interacts with County elected officials, other governmental agencies and community groups

The County Manager's support staff provides administrative, research and documentary support to the Board of Supervisors in conjunction with official Board meetings and functions.  Public information, organizational development and special initiatives are also overseen by the County Manager.
